Synopsis:

It is June 1979, and school is out for the summer! Having just turned ten years old, Shane Anderson is your typical fun-loving kid who just moved from the suburbs to the city. Sure, he likes to exit the same door he entered. And he likes turning lights on and off an even number of times. And he has to keep scary movie scenes out of his head at bedtime. But apart from that (and maybe a few other things), he’s just a normal guy with a musical mom, a semi-hippie dad and the coolest sister around. Join him as he experiences many notable adventures against the backdrop of toys, tunes, TV shows and new-found friends.

Author Q&A:

What inspired you to write Tucked In?

Whenever I’m reminded of something appealing from my childhood, a warm and pleasant feeling comes over me. It can be a song, a toy, a TV show or any pop culture item. And I have noticed this in others too. There’s just something about nostalgia that makes people feel good. With this in mind, I decided to write a story that takes place in the era that I grew up in. Tucked In is my attempt at creating a nice nostalgic trip in book form.

What was one of the most surprising things you learned in creating your book?

The main surprise was just the amount of work and expertise that goes into publishing a book. Wanting to put forth as professional a product as possible, I wisely enlisted the help of Tellwell Talent who provided me with a trained editor, illustrator, designer and marketer. I learned so much from the experience and I am very pleased with the outcome. I hope readers are too.

What do you hope the readers will get out of Tucked In?

For those who were alive in the late seventies, and especially Generation Xers (which I count myself one of), I hope the book provides an entertaining journey back in time as well as a chance to re-experience what it was like to be young. As for everyone else, my wish is to provide a fun glimpse into a more care-free and unstructured upbringing. In all cases, I just want readers to have a good (or should I say groovy?) time.
